Wayzata City Council Enacts Moratorium on New Short-Term Rentals

The Wayzata City Council has implemented a 12-month moratorium on new short-term rentals, aiming to address community concerns and reassess existing regulations. This decision reflects the city’s commitment to maintaining the character of residential neighborhoods while evaluating the impact of short-term rental properties.

Residents have expressed apprehension about the proliferation of short-term rentals, citing issues related to noise, safety, and the erosion of neighborhood cohesion. The moratorium provides the city with an opportunity to study these concerns comprehensively and consider potential policy adjustments.

During this period, the council plans to engage with community members, property owners, and stakeholders to gather input and explore balanced solutions that accommodate both the interests of residents and the economic benefits associated with short-term rentals.

Mayor Andrew Mullin emphasized the importance of this pause, stating, “This moratorium allows us to take a step back and ensure that our policies align with the best interests of our community.”

The city encourages residents to participate in upcoming public forums and provide feedback as Wayzata navigates this complex issue.
